Switching the Beds Just a Little Bit - Oct. 08, 2010
It's the corner from you know where.
When you come in the store, the corner to the far left has been many things since Animal Essentials opened its doors in 2006.
Let's see...the wall was once used for dog breed t-shirts. Shirts hung from all areas of that particular wall until they sold out. It was once home to our bird section, once home to apparel, once home to just about everything. For some reason, the corner has never attracted attention.
Part of it was my fault, finding the right attraction area.
Our beds have been on a four-tiered unit for quite some time in that neck of the woods, but we had to augment the display with hanging racks. They are big and bulky and really don't provide the viewing image of the beds the way they should be.
Well, last night Tom and I tackled the issue head on.
We moved the former ProSeries shelving unit from out back and put it beside the existing bed display. It ate up most of the corner that once housed apparel, but it's chalk full of beds now. The top of the unit allows us to place some soft-sided crates for better display, out of the box and on top looking down.
We were able to consolidate our two hanging racks into one and place the one standard up by the rest of the mats for continuity. The apparel that was left over was placed with other clothing items on the seven floor racks so all is kind of rolled into one specific area.
It may take some getting used to, but that corner is finally alive with a sense of purpose.
Our folding crates are now all out back in the Food Court. Those are specific items that are rarely impulse items, so it gives us a destination spot for the kennels.
And we're not finished yet, by George.
More is yet to come and we look forward to dismantling and, um, re-mantling.
See you at the store this weekend.
