Improvements Coming to the Aquarium Section - Nov. 26, 2010

By now, even if you're a quasi reader of the follies involving my lack of handiwork, you'll understand a hammer and nail aren't my best friends.

Just the way things worked out, I guess.

I tried unravelling the blinds at the house last night and lost that battle, too, so it's not just building stuff that clouds my mind.

Too much time reading, writing and shooting pucks as a youth to heed my Dad's advice of "you know, there's going to come a time when you're going to need to do some building work."

Which brings me to the aquarium section of Animal Essentials.

There are 16 tanks sitting on a heavy industrial shelving unit.

Underneath that unit has been a myriad of measures.

We did have some racking there once to help display some fish-friendly items, but it just never worked.

You may remember me discussing what's there now to cover the gap. A ping pong table is what keeps the bottom area covered now.

Actually, I do have to admit, it doesn't look bad with the slate black appearance.

Not good for promoting items, however, unless you're seeking a game of table tennis anytime soon.

 Soon, however, that will change.

Handiman Mike is coming to the store soon to put together a wooden shelving unit that will slide under the racking and allow us to display gravel, fish food specials and whatever else is on your mind when it comes to your favourite water hobby.

It will help bring that area together and avoid me measuring, getting splinters and generally wrecking anything I touch.

We're looking forward to its appearance in our continued growth of store re-design.

An emergency shipment of ProSeries food will be delivered to the store today. Man, that stuff comes in the back door and out the front. Great to see a local food doing so well at our store.

***

Acana has also taken off at AE. It gives us two Canadian-made premium foods. Our stock of Nutro is dwindling as we move forward without it. There are sales on the remaining items.

***

Don't forget the guinea pig specials. We have four of the cute little critters weep, weep, weeping in the store. Buy a Tommy Cage and save on the guinea pigs.

We're hoping for our shipment of apparel, but with the American holiday this week, things slow to a crawl. Still would like to see it today, though.

***

Blue Seal's food order is anticipated early next week. We're still in good shape supply-wise for cat and dog food, but the rabbit, hamster and guinea pig food is getting low.

Great gift for Christmas is our rawhide post cards for dogs. You can actually mail it to your favourite canine. Now that's a mail run worth doing.
