 There have been a few times when it's happened.

 You're aware Animal Essentials is an official adoption agency - satellite agency - of the Fredericton SPCA.

 Tremendous collaboration and one that has been a solid marriage.

 We have adopted a number of cats and rabbits and FSPCA dogs at Animal Essentials over the years.

 The numbers will continue to increase, too.

 As part of the adoption program, we also offer customers 20 per cent off their entire purchase when they start combing the store for supplies.

 You've just adopted a cat?

 Well, you're going to need a litter box, litter, food, toys, treats and maybe a scratch post.

 It's good to have a plan going in for what you need. If not, one of our employees will gladly give you or help you with a game plan.

 I'm continually amazed when folks will adopt a cat and ask us to hold their new pet while they roll off up the hill to you-know-where to purchase supplies.

 Time, gas, money.

 It happens more than once.

 At the end of the day there's not a thing you can do. Customer's choice and I understand that. But when you really, really compare, it's not apples and oranges. Sure the food is cheaper, but there's a reason for that.

 Adopt an animal from the FSPCA and save 20 per cent on all your purchases. That will help cut down on leaving our parking lot, going through a series of lights, parking 8.2-miles away, buying supplies, driving back and all that fun stuff.

 Just a thought.

 But a puzzling thought.

 At least to me.
